Maximise performance and extend the life of your wind turbines

Swire Renewable Energy provides specialised solutions to minimise required maintenance and reduce the level of unplanned downtime. Our team also conducts troubleshooting in an expedient and safe manner, to get turbines generating in the event of an electrical or mechanical failure, thus reducing generation losses for owner operators.

Annual Scheduled Maintenance

Regular maintenance is the key to protecting your assets and their components - enhancing safety, increasing production, minimising downtime and ultimately maximising your ROI. Regular maintenance ensures compliance to manufacturers’ warranties and reduces the risk of component failure.

Our team of highly experienced, fully certified technicians can

  • Develop maintenance strategies and plans tailored to your specific needs
  • Conduct ongoing preventative maintenance
  • Conduct corrective maintenance to ensure the integrity of your wind turbines.

SRE can provide this as an independent service provider, or as supplementary manpower to those delivering maintenance requirements, offering flexibility and responsiveness to optimum effect.

Troubleshooting & Reactive Maintenance

Effective troubleshooting and reactive maintenance are essential for maximising wind turbine performance and longevity. When issues such as reduced power output, mechanical failures, or electrical faults occur, Swire technicians utilise diagnostic tools including vibration analysis, temperature checks, and electrical testing. Modern turbines, equipped with real-time sensors, enable remote monitoring for early fault detection.

The root causes of problems can range from gearbox failures, blade damage, and electrical faults to control system malfunctions. A thorough diagnostic process helps pinpoint the issue, allowing for targeted solutions.

SRE understands the urgency to address turbine downtime and as such, our global teams of technicians are flexible with the ability to mobilise within short noticed to support any troubleshooting & reactive maintenance scopes across multiple wind turbine platforms.

Upgrades & Retrofit Campaigns

Wind turbine retrofits involve upgrading or replacing components in older turbines to enhance performance, improve efficiency, or extend operational lifespan. For wind farm operators, retrofitting offers a cost-effective alternative to replacing outdated turbines entirely.

SRE has successfully delivered numerous turbine upgrades and retrofits through our global pool of highly qualified technicians, helping clients optimise their wind assets.

Major Component Exchange

Major component exchanges are typically planned during scheduled maintenance to minimise operational disruption. However, unexpected failures require swift and effective replacements to restore turbine functionality.

This process involves:

  • Detailed assessment of the affected components
  • Careful disassembly of damaged parts
  • Installation of new or refurbished replacements.

SRE has extensive experience supporting OEMs with highly skilled and qualified technicians for major component exchange campaigns, both onshore and offshore.

Gear Box Oil Exchange

Over time, gearbox oil degrades due to heat, contamination, and mechanical stress, leading to increased friction, wear, and potential gearbox failure. Regular oil exchanges maintain optimal lubrication, reducing friction and preventing premature wear.

SRE offers a complete solution for gearbox oil exchanges, including:

  • Onshore and offshore transport
  • Specialist equipment
  • Technical services
  • High-quality oil products

Bolt Torquing

Bolt torquing ensures proper tension and fastening of wind turbine bolts, preventing structural instability and equipment failure caused by vibrations, temperature changes, or mechanical stress. SRE’s technicians systematically check and re-torque bolts on key components like the nacelle, tower, gearbox, and blades, adhering to precise torque specifications.

SRE can perform bolt torquing as part of scheduled maintenance or as an independent campaign, enhancing turbine safety, performance, and lifespan.

Balance of Plant

Foundation maintenance is essential for the long-term stability and safety of wind turbines. Over time, foundations can degrade due to factors like soil settlement, corrosion, or water infiltration, especially in offshore installations. Regular inspections identify issues such as cracks, erosion, or drainage problems.

Maintenance tasks include:

  • Reinforcing foundations
  • Applying protective coatings
  • Addressing soil shifts to preserve structural integrity

Proper upkeep ensures turbine safety, extends operational life, and enhances wind farm reliability.

Statutory Inspections

Statutory inspections are mandatory checks to ensure wind turbines meet safety, compliance, and operational standards. These inspections assess structural integrity, mechanical systems, electrical components, and safety features like emergency shutdowns.

Swire Renewable Energy provides these inspections at regular intervals to help minimise accident risks, prevent turbine damage, and ensure worker safety. Any issues identified must be addressed promptly to maintain compliance and protect human and environmental health.

Mould Cleaning

Swire has extensive experience managing mould build-up in offshore foundations, particularly in transition piece (TP) and tower sections.

Drawing from large installation projects, we understand how even minor organic contamination — such as wooden pallets, tools with bacteria, or pollen from pre-assembly sites — can lead to significant mould issues, posing health risks like allergic reactions and respiratory problems.

Swire uses recognised swipe test methods to identify and quantify mould contamination. Post-cleaning tests and comprehensive photo documentation ensure thorough results, compiled in a detailed final report for future reference.

With proven expertise, our specialists and technicians handle mould cleaning projects efficiently and effectively.

Wind Turbine Safety Rules

Swire ensures the highest safety standards during all wind turbine operations, safeguarding both personnel and assets. With a clear focus on compliance, accountability, and proactive risk management, our wind turbine safety rules set the benchmark for operational excellence.

By adhering to these rules, Swire takes responsibility for critical safety aspects, ensuring that all procedures are rigorously followed, documented, and reviewed to maintain safety and reliability in turbine operations.

Our commitment to safety ensures peace of mind for clients, fosters trust, and enables long-term operational success.

Our approach includes:

  • Full accountability: Swire takes full ownership of safety responsibilities during wind turbine operations, ensuring all procedures are rigorously followed and documented. This includes implementing and managing the necessary safety systems on-site.
  • Comprehensive training: All technicians are thoroughly trained and qualified to identify and mitigate turbine-related risks, ensuring a high level of safety and competency in every task.
  • Permit-to-work system: A structured permit system ensures all tasks are controlled and executed safely, with clear protocols established before, during, and after the work.
  • Regular audits: Safety systems and processes undergo regular reviews and audits to ensure alignment with industry standards and to identify any areas for improvement.

"Our focus is on safe, effective project delivery. We have demonstrable experience in the delivery of all aspects of wind farm construction, testing and commissioning, service and maintenance. Using Swire to deliver your project requirements is a major step towards successful wind farm operations."
