Solution

Swire Renewable Energy Strengthens Aviation Division test engineers carried out a detailed inspection of the rescue davit crane on the wind turbine. Following the inspection it was identified that some modifications would be required. The engineers carried out a variety of services for the davit crane including:

  • Davit stripped down and required modifications implemented.
  • Davit re-assembled in situ on the platform to reduce downtime.
  • Proof loading test and inspection carried out including bolt torqueing.

The access ladder for the wind turbine was then inspected and included;

  • Visual inspection on the ladder
  • MPI inspection on the platform

Detailed findings report including:

  • Risk assessments
  • Method statements
  • Lift Plan
  • Qualification documents

Benefits

  • By modifying a Swire stock unit the customer was able to realise significant cost savings compared to commissioning and manufacturing a new build design.
  • The complete unit was delivered on time and in budget as entire project was managed by the internal SOS teams, removing the need for multiple suppliers.
